Access and fairness reforms will bring welcome improvements to Local Government Pension Scheme

Maria Espadinha, Policy Lead at Pensions UK, said: “The Government's response to the LGPS Access and Fairness consultation confirms several reforms will proceed, including mandatory gender pension gap reporting, survivor benefit equalisation, and changes to ensure unpaid absences do not disadvantage members’ pensions.

“Pensions UK supports these changes, which will bring improved equality, fairness, access and administration across the LGPS, and, at a time of significant wider regulatory change impacting the LGPS, welcomes the Government’s pragmatic approach to phased implementation and limiting the administrative burden on funds.”
