Helping members run their schemes, August 2025 Update

08 August 2025, Blog

The start of the summer holiday season seems as good a time as any to take stock of how we’ve helped our members so far this year, saving you from extra cost and complexity in running your schemes. It’s not a bad list!

  • Just a fortnight ago, the Government’s response to the consultation on Inheritance Tax and pensions adopted the proposals we developed with our members, rather than those of other respondents, on how the tax should be paid, thereby alleviating the financial and administrative burden on schemes.
  • We now have a realistic prospect of the PPF levy being reduced to zero, following Pensions UK lobbying to get the necessary legislation to the Pension Schemes Bill. This builds on the reduction from £100m to £45m earlier this year, though we still have work to do on the unexpected return of the Administration Levy. Behind-the-scenes engagement on this has however been positive.

Visit the Pensions UK Member Hub to read my full blog, including how our Policy team’s work helped shape key developments, from steering the Government away from mandating pension fund investment through the Mansion House Accord, to strengthening parliamentary ties via the new APPG on Pensions and Growth, and advancing the Small Pots feasibility study through industry coordination.

We’ll be discussing these and many other issues about the future of pensions at our ‘2030 Ready’ Annual Conference in Manchester (14-16 October). I hope to see you there. Enjoy those holidays in the meantime!
