Helping members run their schemes, November 2025 Update
10 November 2025, Blog
I am sure you – like me – find that some of your best insights come from those random pensions conversations with non-pensions ‘civilians’.
My latest was on Tuesday evening, when an infuriating train cancellation saw me end up in a taxi with a fellow commuter, who told me she was a freelance session singer, no less. Amazing what people do for a living!
Although she does part-time music teaching and has some DB rights from the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, my new friend was otherwise a classic example of the lack of pension provision for the self-employed. Her partner, she said, had been badgering her to do something about it.
This short conversation reminded me how consequential our work here at Pensions UK - on helping people to get a better income in retirement - could be for many of our fellow citizens.
