Changes to the Local Government Pension Scheme (Scotland) Regulations 2018: Pensions UK response

25 November 2025

The Scottish Public Pensions Agency launched a consultation on changes to LGPS regulations, aimed at bringing the Scottish scheme in line with scheme changes in England & Wales and Northern Ireland.

The document, published on 2 September, covers a number of proposals relating to pension benefits for scheme members, including forfeiture, opt outs, removal of the age 75 limit for death benefit payments, gender pension gap reporting, McCloud and other technical amendments.

While supportive of the proposed changes, Pensions UK has submitted a letter in response to this consultation, focusing mainly on the potential administrative burden brought by implementation of the proposals.
