Pensions UK has joined an international investor coalition raising concerns about a move by the US securities regulator that will weaken protections for shareholders and make the US a less attractive place for UK pension funds to invest.
In September, the US Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) changed its policy to allow US-listed companies to require shareholders to settle claims through arbitration, rather than exposing them to litigation in court.
Pensions UK has added its name to a joint letter to the SEC, signed by a cohort of large international investors, representing a total of more than £6 trillion in assets, to express its opposition to the decision.
